Laverty's frustrating day on the road

Blusens Aprilia 250 rider Eugene Laverty leaves Spain deeply frustrated having finished just outside the points in 16th position in the Gran Premi de Catalunya near Barcelona.

Laverty was involved in a race long battle with Manuel Poggiali but a lack of horsepower proved costly.

Practice didn't go very smoothly for the Irish rider but a big change in chassis setting allowed Laverty to produce a better rhythm during the race.

Speaking about the race, the rider said: 'Today has been one of my most frustrating races in the world championship.  I got stuck behind Poggiali and there was no way to make a break from a machine 10kph faster.

'My pace was much better than his today but he would repass me on the 1 km long straight everytime I  found a way through.

16th position is less than rewarding for how hard I fought today.  We made a big improvement overnight with the chassis setting and my pace could have been much better only for the no. 54 roadblock in front of me!

'I'm looking forward to Donington now, a track I know well and a track where horsepower isn’t so important.'

Laverty has twice finished on the podium in the British Supersport Championship at the circuit of Donington so he should count it among his favourites.
