Belmayne Team Ireland driver Adam Carroll took third place in race one and sixth from 18th on the grid in the feature race at round two of the A1 Grand Prix motor-racing series at Brno in the Czech Republic, reports RTÉ Sport's John Kenny.
The 24-year-old Carroll from Portadown, started fourth on the grid for the opening sprint race with New Zealand's Johnny Reid on pole position.
Carroll, however, enjoyed a great start and through the first lap. The Team Ireland car was dicing with the GB car of Robbie Kerr for second place until Kerr hit a bump sending his car into the Team Ireland machine.
Carroll was able to keep the car going despite some damage to his side pod and finished a fine third to move his country into seventh on the standings on 18 points, with South Africa leading at that stage on 36 points, having finished fourth.
The sprint race was won by New Zealand ahead of GB with Ireland taking the final place on the podium.
Team Ireland didn't have the best of grid positions for the 70 minute feature race as Carroll was a lowly 18th after being blocked by Portugal in the final qualifying run on Saturday.
But once again the Irish driver got a stunning start and he gained six places by the end of the opening lap to move himself up to 12th.
By the time the first mandatory pit stop came, Carroll was in the top ten and at the end of the second pit for tyres he was up to sixth, a position held onto until the end of the 38 laps to secure five points for his country.
Reid secured a double victory for New Zealand with the Netherlands second and Switzerland in third.
New Zealand, by virtue of Reid’s double win in Brno, now have a one point lead in the 10 round series on 37 points, with South Africa second on the standing. Team Ireland have a total of 23 and lie seventh overall.
The next round of the A1 GP series is in Sepang in Malaysia on Sunday the 25 November.
