Lewis Hamilton is considering paying an emotional visit to the grave of hero Ayrton Senna following next weekend's Formula One title showdown in Brazil.

Legendary three-times champion Senna inspired Hamilton during the young British star's early years prior to being killed in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Hamilton has a number of videos and DVDs of Senna in action as he feels the Brazilian icon was the ultimate racing driver, someone to look up to and admire.

Now, on the occasion of his first visit to Sao Paulo, Hamilton may pay his respects - but only after the title has been decided.

Hamilton first faces an all-or-nothing showdown at Interlagos with McLaren rival Fernando Alonso and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

Once that is out of the way, he concedes visiting Senna's grave at the Morumbi cemetery on the outskirts of Sao Paulo is 'definitely something I'd like to do'.

He added: 'I've not thought about going to see his grave, but I'll think about visiting after the race.

'It's important I have a clear mind going into the race weekend, and that would be too emotional to do before the race. I'll find it emotional and moving to go there. After the race I have time as I can stay a couple of days in Brazil.'

Hamilton is now determined to get the job done in 10 days' time after blowing his first shot at clinching the title on Sunday.

Hamilton failed to finish for the first time in his rookie season in the Chinese Grand Prix when he slid into the gravel on severely-worn tyres.

Yet far from feeling sorry for himself, Hamilton is confident he has learned from his mistake and is eager to atone for his error.

He insisted: 'I've a lot of confidence in myself. It's got to be a hard hit knowing the World Championship was there and I didn't take it, but it's still there to win.

'In spite of having a DNF in China I'm still in the lead and I've still a good chance of winning, so I'm feeling pretty cool as I'm in the best position to do that.

'I'm mentally stronger after the weekend in China. Some drivers would be on the back foot, but I've taken the negatives and made them into positives. I've had a very good season.'

Hamilton maintains he knows only one way to drive, and that is to win as there are many who felt he had no need to race Raikkonen at one point in China when it was clear his tyres were wearing thin.

And while there will be no let-up at Interlagos, he concedes he may not be as bold in Brazil as he was in Shanghai.

'I will approach the race in the same way as always, to win it,' insisted Hamilton.
'Some part of my mind will be focused on the end result, ie: winning the World Championship and not the race - but I go to win.

'I don't read the papers generally, but I did read one, which said where I had to finish in Brazil to win the World Championship. However, I understand the position I'm in and what I have to do.

'I aim on finishing on the podium and know I can't take risks - maybe I took a risk at the last race.'

The situation is certainly on a knife-edge, and while Hamilton appreciates he left his many fans disappointed, he is confident they will be smiling come the end.

'I have to apologise for keeping them in suspense, but I'm pretty sure they'll be happy,' he added.

'It's been a phenomenal year, and reading the fans' letters from the UK and all over the world has been fantastic. That, along with the support from my family, gives me a lot and is important to me.'
