Jonathan Rea took his maiden victory in the Irish round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Mondello Park with victory in race two.

The 20-year-old Ballyclare rider held off fierce challenges from the Stobart Vent Axia Honda of Shane Byrne to power his HM Plant Honda to victory by 2.34 seconds.

Airwaves Ducati's Leon Haslam had earlier taken his first victory of the season, again at the expense of Byrne, in race one.

Haslam's team-mate Gregorio Lavilla, with a pair of third places, closed within one point of series leader Ryuichi Kiyonari who twice finished fifth on the HM Plant Honda.
