Red Bull will decide on Monday whether to replace rookie Vitantonio Liuzzi with Christian Klien.
The new team have so far preferred a rotation policy which saw Austrian driver Klien given the first three races before reigning Formula 3000 champion Liuzzi took over for three.
Liuzzi comes to the end of his planned stint this weekend in Monaco but Red Bull sporting director Christian Horner revealed a decision has yet to be taken on whether Klien will return to the cockpit.
The former Jaguar driver, who scored three points in his three races for Red Bull, has been acting as third driver at recent grands prix while Liuzzi has been impressing Horner in the second race seat.
Horner said: "The situation is pretty clear. As we said for the outset he gets three races in line with what Christian got.
"After Sunday we will take a decision as to who sits in the car for the next batch of races. We'll have those facts by Sunday evening.
"Christian did very well in his three races before Tonio came in so we have a very healthy situation, with healthy competition.
"Christian is chomping at the bit to get back in the car. We'll make a decision on Monday morning."
Red Bull's rotation policy was widely predicted, but even so Klien's plight found sympathy within the paddock after a seventh and eighth from the only two races he started - his car failed to get off the grid for the warm-up lap in Bahrain.
Liuzzi was fortunate to be lifted to eighth in San Marino when both BARs were disqualified before spinning off at Barcelona, but Horner has still been impressed with the Italian's performances.
"We are pleased with the job that he's done," he said.
"He had a very good debut in Imola. He drove a very strong race when the car wasn't comparatively performing as well as it had done previously.
"For a debut race he drove very strongly and ultimately got a point out of it. In Barcelona he had a lot of fuel in the car and made a mistake. Hopefully he will have learnt from that."
