Rubens Barrichello insists he is still on course to become world champion, even though he has been number two at Ferrari since joining as Michael Schumacher's team-mate in 2000.

In that time Schumacher has won five consecutive world championships, comprehensively out-performing Barrichello on the way.

But Barrichello claims he still has the self-belief necessary to win a world crown - and concedes he would have no future at Ferrari if he accepted second best.

"I'm always there, I'm always fully committed," he said.  "If, one day, I should start thinking and say that `look, I will never catch Michael' I'm sure that from that day I would not stay at Ferrari because I would lose the motivation to be the best.

"I still have the motivation to be the best. Whether this will take place this year, or another year, we don't know. It's going to depend on my work, it will depend on how I will adjust to the new rules."
