Red Bull Racing want to sign Coulthard

Red Bull Racing have revealed their intention to sign former McLaren driver David Coulthard for the 2005 Formula One season.

The 33-year-old impressed during testing in Jerez for the new Cosworth-powered team, with his blistering pace edging out the team's regular testers Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Red Bull Racing managing director David Pitchforth made it clear his team want to recruit the Scot, and that his experience would be invaluable for the outfit.

"Having an experienced driver is a no-brainer," said Pitchforth. "He (Coulthard) did two good days testing for us and did a very professional job."

"He's got all the experience and ability that we need to move the team forward, so if I was asked if I would sign him then I would say yes."

"Nothing is signed yet, but we're working on things and I hope we can come to an agreement. But I would still say things are 50-50 - they could still go either way," he told www.itv.co.uk
