Former world champion Niki Lauda has urged new Jaguar owners Red Bull to hire David Coulthard next year.
"David Coulthard is free and his experience makes him a good solution," Lauda said.
Jaguar team leader Tony Purnell has revealed that a number of drivers will test for the new team in the coming weeks.
Coulthard, a 13-time Grand Prix winner, has lost his seat with McLaren to Juan Pablo Montoya for the 2005 season but is hopeful of remaining on the grid.
Williams still have a spare seat that Coulthard is targeting, but the Red Bull team promised to consider him for one of two drives with the team.
"No decisions have been made but over the coming weeks we will be testing a few drivers," Purnell said.
Red Bull Racing will be on track for the first time on November 24 in Barcelona.
Red Bull-backed Austrian driver Christian Klien, who drove for Jaguar this year, is expected to be retained next season.
