Irish driver claims first pole in Asia

2003 Formula Ireland champion John O’Hara claimed his first Asian Formula 3 pole position at the Batangas race circuit in the Philippines earlier today.

With sixth-tenths of a second covering the first three in qualifying, O’Hara came out of the pit after fellow overseas driver, Australian Christian Jones, who had posted the quickest time. The Donadea, Co. Kildare native clocked a stunning 1:25.135 lap to outpace the field. English driver Mark Goddard made it a 1-2-3 for the overseas drivers with 1:25.761, and Jones just over three hundredths ahead of him.

O’Hara, at 24 years of age, was quickest in practice on Thursday and Friday, and is rated as one of the favourites for the Asian Formula 3 championship.
