Jordan's Ralph Firman is confident of making a return to the cockpit for the first time in three races at this weekend's United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis. The 28-year-old Brit was withdrawn from the race in Italy two weeks ago complaining of an inner-ear imbalance caused by his 150mph smash during practice in Hungary which forced him to miss that grand prix.
Firman completed 26 laps in the Jordan-Ford during testing at Silverstone last week and is desperate to race on Sunday as he looks to secure his Formula One future.
Firman said: "The most important thing about going to Indianapolis is for me to race after the frustrations of the past few weeks. After my accident in Hungary I really would not have believed that I'd subsequently miss the Italian Grand Prix. But the effects of a 46G impact are obviously quite severe - and I've been careful to rest, fully recover and get back into training.
"If there is an upside to what has happened it's that I have had a lot oftime to concentrate on my next race. I have not raced at Indianapolis before. But I know it is a unique track, and it will be interesting to race on the banked section."
