Eddie Irvine today insisted that this weekend's season-ending Japanese Grand Prix will not be his last race in Formula 1. However, the 36-year-old Ulsterman will still not reveal which team he will line up for next season.
Irvine is coming to the end of his £20million three-year deal with Jaguar Racing and recently was linked with a return to former team Jordan. Irvine's only other option is to extend his contract with Jaguar although team chief Niki Lauda claims there have been no talks with Irvine yet and there won't be until after Sunday's race.
When asked about his plans Irvine said: "Let's see. Next season is next season." When approached by a journalist if this would be his last race as a Formula 1 driver, he replied: " It's not going to be so don't worry about it".
However, at 36-years-old he is the oldest driver on the grid and retirement remains a possiblity for the former Ferrari driver who almost won a world title back in 1999.
