Barrichello wins US Grand Prix

Ferrari recorded yet another one-two, this time at the United States Grand Prix, as Rubens Barrichello came home just ahead of team-mate Michael Schumacher at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Meanwhile, McLaren's David Coulthard was third and Williams' Juan Pablo Montoya fourth while Jarno Trulli came home fifth in the Renault and Jacques Villenuve of BAR Honda was sixth.

It was Barrichello's fourth win of the season and the result improved Ferrari's record to 14 wins from 16 races, including the last nine in a row. Barrichello triumphed by 0.010 seconds after Schumacher, who had led the race for all but two of the 73 laps, slowed after the final turn, gifting his team-mate victory and ensuring the Italian team will be in line for a barrage of criticism from those involved in the sport, as Barrichello was guaranteed second spot in the drivers' championship.

It was another poor performance from the Williams team as drivers Montoya and Ralf Schumacher clashed when Montoya attempted to overtake his team-mate at turn one but the German, who was on the inside, refused to concede fourth spot. Schumacher hit a kerb on the dirty part of the track and slid into Montoya losing his rear wing as both briefly went off the circuit. Montoya dropped to seventh while Schumacher found himself last after being forced into a pit-stop to replace his wing. Although Montoya battled back to take fourth spot, Schumacher finished a sorry last.

Eddie Irvine was unable to repeat his heroics of Italy a fortnight ago when he finished third - he came home 10th in the Jaguar. Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato finished seventh and 11th respectively.
