Raikkonen penalised for Sato crash

Kimi Raikkonen will start tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix 6th on the grid after being penalised for his part in the collision with Takuma Sato's Jordan today. Raikkonen was held responsible for the collision and as a result his fastest lap time was removed from record meaning Eddie Irvine will now take his 5th place on the grid with the Finn dropping to 6th.

The qualifying session had to be stopped when Raikkonen cut across Sato who was sent skidding into the gravel and smashing into a tyre barrier. Consequently the race director sent a report to the Stewards of the meeting stating that Raikkonen had caused the collision leading to the deletion of Raikkonen's fastest time.
