Michael Schumacher insists he will be more motivated than ever when he makes an emotional return to Monza next week for Ferrari's home race. The German will compete at the Italian track for the first time since last September when, clearly, he was affected by the attacks on North America which had taken place just a few days earlier.
Schumacher finished fourth in last year's grand prix, the only time he failed to make it to the podium in the 15 out of 17 races he took the chequered flag. "I will be motivated for Monza," he said. "I think last year was the first time for a long time that I was not at the peak of performance for an obvious reason."
"But we are not going to, hopefully, have to face anything like this again so I should be in normal shape and normal motivation and then we shall see what the car allows us to do. The question has been why we are so dominant and that it will be an easy thing for us in Monza."
"But we have seen this year that with the tyre situation sometimes you come to a circuit where you have been dominant and suddenly you are not so dominant and the gap is very close. I forsee that this can happen. It doesn't need to happen but it can in Monza so we have to give it 100%. We will do and I will do and we want to do well for the tifosi in Monza."
