World champion Michael Schumacher has said he will never be able to forget his British Grand Prix horror, which left his 1999 title hopes in tatters. The current championship leader returns to Silverstone again this week as the odds-on favourite for the drivers' crown after racking up a massive 46-point lead.
But the German knows his thoughts will turn to three-years ago when his Ferrari shot across the track on the opening lap. The brakes on his Ferrari failed and he smashed into a tyre barrier, breaking his leg. "Of course the memory of it is still there. You never forget something like that completely. After all, its not exactly a pleasant feeling, driving into a wall without brakes and knowing what's in store for you", said Schumacher.
But Schumacher insists, despite the bad memories, there will be no holding back on Sunday as he bids to take another step closer to equalling Juan Manual Fangio's record of five drivers' titles. "I will definitely be on the attack and giving it everything at Silverstone, and I think we should have a very good chance if everything goes as it should," added the German.
