Barrichello leads Canada GP free practice

Rubens Barrichello showed world champion Michael Schumacher the way on Friday as Ferrari dominated the opening free practice session for Sunday's Canadian Formula One Grand Prix. The Brazilian clocked a fastest lap of one minute 16.930 seconds, 0.061 quicker than his team mate, at the end of the hour long session as Ferrari began their hunt for the 150th win of their history.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, who has twice finished runner-up in Canada, was third fastest for Jordan nearly a second adrift of the two red cars on a bright and clear morning at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The McLarens of David Coulthard and Finland's Kimi Raikkonen followed on the timesheets while German Heinz- Harald Frentzen continued to shine in his Arrows with the sixth fastest time.

Schumacher, who leads the championship by 33 points, has won four times in Canada and will be favourite to succeed again on Sunday as the Formula One season nears the halfway point. The German brushed the concrete wall with a rear wheel during an otherwise uneventful session.
