Italy's Giancarlo Fisichella tonight welcomed the prospect of having Eddie Irvine as a team-mate at Jordan next season. Irvine has been linked with a return to the team which launched him into Formula One when his £6million contract with Jaguar Racing finishes at the end of this season.
"It would be nice - he is a good driver and a great guy," said Fisichella in Canada today at the prospect of linking up with Irvine in 2003. If Irvine did return to the Silverstone-based outfit headed by Eddie Jordan, it would appear to be at the expense of Japanese rookie Takuma Sato, who has had a difficult start to his F1 career.
But Jordan maintained recently Sato had a solid contract until the end of 2003, with options after wards. "He does not have enough experience," said Fisichella of Sato today. "Sometimes he looks quick, but is maybe a bit too aggressive."
"He has had a couple of bad accidents and he has been a bit unlucky. I am sure it will be easier for him in the second half of the season."
