Eddie Irvine has revealed he’d rather quit Jaguar than regularly settle for a place on the back of the grid. Irvine is in 20th place on the grid for tomorrow’s Malaysian Grand Prix but the Ulsterman says he would prefer to walk away from the sport than to cruise at the back of the field.
“I have got to perform and if I don’t perform I don’t want to stay. I don’t want to drive at the back of the field like a tosser and make a few million dollars. I can make plenty of money outside not to need it. I believe whatever will be will be and I will turn my hand to something else. But competition is what I enjoy so achieving that in whatever walk of life is not going to be an issue,” said Irvine.
The former Ferrari driver is in the final year of his three-year contract with Jaguar, which is reportedly worth £20 million.
