Michael Schumacher has said that Ferrari could unleash their 2002 car at the Brazilian Grand Prix at the end of the month. So far Ferrari officials have been happy to use last year’s model and it served Schumacher well in Australia, but testing will continue on the 2002 model and Rubens Barrichello will drive it for the first time next week in Barcelona.
Schumacher said, “Testing has gone very well but there always remains a certain amount of conservatism, especially after the great performance we were able to do with the old car, We want to be 100% certain that nothing can go wrong and we will take the decision based on our knowledge. We will have another test in Barcelona after this race and after that I am sure we are going to take a decision. I would assume we are going to race the new car in Brazil but it is not fixed.”
Ferrari continued testing on the 2002 car at the Mugello track in Italy last week with test driver Luca Badoer and are reluctant to rush it on to the grid, especially after the performance of last season’s model in Australia.
