Michael Devaney, from Rathfarnham, Dublin, won the biggest prize of his career when he was crowned "Young Racing Driver of the Year". He was presented the award at the Alfa Romeo/Motorsport Ireland Awards for Excellence in Irish Motorsport which took place in the Westbury Hotel, Dublin.
Devaney was presented with the prestigious Dunlop Sexton Trophy, a cheque for £20,000 and a weeks training at the Derek Daly Motorsport Academy in Las Vegas. One of Ireland's brightest Grand Prix prospects, the award came just a day after he celebrated his seventeenth birthday. He said: "Winning this award means so much to me. This is a very prestigious prize and it is sure to open many doors and help me reach my ultimate goal."
The son of former F2 driver Bernard Devaney, Michael became the youngest ever Irish driver to test an F3 car, when he completed a highly successful test, at Silverstone, in October, with Meritus Racing.
