Safety no problem in US says Lauda

Jaguar boss Niki Lauda believes all Formula One drivers should take part in next weekend's Indianapolis Grand Prix, dismissing concerns over safety as "rubbish". The Austrian triple world champion insisted in a column, which will appear in tomorrow's Welt am Sonntag, that as long as the race was not called off, all teams and their drivers should take par.

"There are contracts with the organisers, contracts with the FIA and contracts between the teams and their drivers. As long as all participants have not agreed to call off the race, I don't see any possibility for any side to breach those contracts. All the drivers should take part in Indianapolis, and that includes Michael Schumacher," he says.

Lauda also said he is confident there will be no safety problems whatsoever in Indianapolis despite last week's suicide plane attacks on New York and Washington. "If anybody has any doubts about that, I think that's complete rubbish," he added.
