Sammin named Young Driver of the Month

Paul Sammin, the 20-year old from Louisburgh, Co. Mayo has been selected as Irish Motorsport’s Young Driver of the Month for August. In his debut season in Formula Europa Paul is currently lying third in the nine race series having had three podium finishes during the season to date. In being selected Paul qualifies to be a finalist in the Young Driver of the Year award scheme which is worth a package of £25,000 to the ultimate winner who will be announced in December. He joins Alan Dwyer (May), Michael Devaney (June) and Richard Faulkner (July) who have already qualified as finalists.

The Young Racing Driver of the Year scheme has been devised by Motorsport Ireland and is being backed by The Irish Sports Council and Irish Dunlop, both of whom have agreed to support the scheme for three years. The new scheme complements Motorsport Ireland’s Billy Coleman Award, which is a similar venture for young aspiring rally drivers. Last month it was announced that as part of the winning package the Young Driver of the Year will go to the Derek Daly Performance Driving Academy in Los Angeles in January of next year.
