Derby's Dobb crowned king

Jamie Dobb won his first 125cc world motocross championship despite only finishing fourth in the German Grand Prix at Gaildorf. The Derby racer holds an unbeatable lead in the championship standings with three races remaining after a tense GP where he had to fend off several close calls with his rivals.

Dobb forced his KTM into the early lead in the 125cc race but soon came under pressure from the Kawasaki of Belgian Steve Ramon, his closest title rival. Dobb was holding the lead on lap four when Ramon collided with him and soon after the Englishman surrendered the lead to the Belgian who was the quicker of the two.

Then Dobb came under attack from the Yamaha of French rider Luigi Seguy, one of his old team-mates. Seguy showed there was no love lost between them as he ran into the back of Dobb, but it was the French rider who fell as his British rival kept going.

Seguy came back at Dobb and went on to pass Ramon and win the race. Dobb was also passed in the late stages by Italian Alessio Chiodi (Yamaha) but he knew by that point that Ramon could not win the race and so the title was his.

Dobb crossed the line in fourth, his worst finish of the season, but that put him 80 points ahead of Ramon and unable to be beaten in the championship race.
