Sacked Frentzen to seek legal advice

Former Jordan driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who was sensationally sacked by the Formula 1 team earlier today, has said he will seek legal advice regarding the sudden termination of his contract. Frentzen's sacking came just weeks after team chief Eddie Jordan ended speculation about Frentzen's future by insisting the German would be staying on until the end of 2002. However, Jordan today terminated the 34-year-old driver's contract just two days before he was due to begin practice for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

According to reports, Frentzen and Jordan clashed following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where Frentzen came home in seventh spot, and Jordan is reportedly disappointed with Frentzen's performance this season. "We had an exchange of views following the British Grand Prix and this is the outcome. It has been a disappointing season for both of us," explained Jordan following today's announcement.

However, Frentzen has no intention of accepting his fate and also released a statement today, detailing his plans. "Following an unexpected termination of my contract by Jordan Grand Prix Limited I will likely not be driving in Hockenheim this weekend. The reasons I have been given for this termination I contest in their entirety. My position in this matter is now under legal advice. Due to the current situation I am unable to make further comment whatsoever at this time."

Jordan's test driver Ricardo Zonta will replace Frentzen until a new long-term replacement has been appointed.
