Webber claims third F3000 win

Australian Mark Webber claimed his third F3000 win of the season at Magny-Cours yesterday and moves within a single point of championship leader Justin Wilson. Wilson finished runner-up to Webber at the French circuit, coming in almost 7.5 seconds behind his nearest championship rival but it was enough to maintain a slender lead in the series' standings.

Wilson's Coca-Cola Nordic Racing team-mate Tomas Enge, who started the race in pole position, lost the battle for the first corner to Webber and eventually came home third. The Czech now lies a furthe four points adrift in the championship standings.

"I was very happy with second place," said Wilson afterwards. "The championship is very tight and the extra points could be vital at the end of the season. I thoroughly enjoyed the race with Tomas. It was hard but fair. I was careful not to touch him because I knew the team wanted both cars home. I never gave up and when we came to the hairpin at the last chicane, Tomas made a slight mistake and left me a gap," he added.
