Justin Wilson had his Formula 3000 championship lead cut to just three points yesterday by Coca-Cola Nordic Racing team-mate Tomas Enge who won the 33-lap race at Nurburgring. Pole-sitter Enge stayed out in front for the whole race, winning by 5.6 seconds from Mark Webber's Super Nova Racing machine. The Czech Republic driver's second victory of the season saw him claim second place in the championship. Brazil's Ricardo Sperafico of the Petrobras Junior Team finished third, 8.6 seconds adrift of Enge.
British driver Wilson, who won two of the opening five races, was forced to retire after just eight laps when he spun twice. This was the first time this season that he failed to finish in the points. Veteran Northern driver Dino Morelli of Team Astromega spun-out after a collision with Mario Haberfeld of Super Nova Racing just a few laps from the finish.
