Season gets underway at Mondello

The 2001 Motor Racing season finally gets underway this weekend when Formula 5000 cars make their first appearance at Mondello Park for more than 25 years. The visiting 'FORCE' F5000 and Classic Grand Prix series' will be the first to experience the new look Mondello venue.

There is a seven-race programme on the full international circuit, on both Sunday and Monday, including a feature race each day for the F5000 and Classic Grand Prix cars. The spectacular series features cars from such famous marques as Brabham, Lola, Surtees and Chevron as raced in the F5000 and Formula One races of the early seventies. Formula Ford Zetec and Europa open their championships with a race on both days as do the Fiat Uno and Punto tin top series.

The new Global lights sports cars series kicks off with two races in conjunction with the Crossle 9S series and the programme will be finished off on Sunday with a Stryker Sports Car race with the spectacular RT2000 saloon car class starring on the Monday.
