De La Rosa aiming to beat Irvine

Eddie Irvine will go into the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend facing a battle for team supremacy from his new team-mate Pedro De La Rosa. The Spaniard is set to make his Jaguar debut in front on his home crowd and is determined to give them something to cheer about, following his move from Arrows.

De La Rosa has impressed in testing since the move and is determined to show Jaguar just what he can do 'Before I try beating anybody this weekend I must compete with Eddie. As somebody with the same equipment as me, he is the benchmark that I must use before anybody else on the race track.' He claimed.

Irvine, however is relishing the challenge and dismisses claims that the arrival of De La Rosa midway through the season will disrupt team harmony ‘Pedro has been with us for a while already and understands the task at hand, so everything should go smoothly on that front.’
