Formula 1: Ferrari hopeful of clean sweep in Championship

Michael Schumacher's Ferrari team are hopeful he can spearhead them to a F1 clean sweep this season. His blistering start to the campaign so far has boosted their chances of not only claiming the driver's crown for the first time since Jody Scheckter in 1979, but also a chance of retaining their constructors title.

Next Sunday's Grand Prix in San Marino is the first of two races that are considered 'home venues' for Ferrari, and Schumacher will take a 12 point lead into that race ahead of nearest rival, Giancarlo Fisichella in his Benetton. However the McLaren team now find themselves with no points following David Coulthard's failure to get the Brazilian Grand Prix results overturned.

Meanwhile the world motorsport governing body, the FIA, say that contracts within the European Union for world championship events like Formula One and World Rally championships will not be renewed. The FIA are seeking clarification from the EU regarding laws governing the holding of events in Europe and until they are clarified, they intend to cut some of the events including Formula One races. Also the organisers of the Brazilan Grand Prix have been fined 100,000 dollers after advertising hoardings fell onto the circuit during qualifying.
