Dublin fighter Peter Queally hopes of becoming the first-ever Irish Bellator world champion were ended in the second round as he suffered a TKO at the hands of Patricky 'Pitbull' Freire.

A raucous crowd welcomed Queally to the ring for the Bellator 270 event at the 3Arena as he tried to secure a second win over the Brazilian with a doctor stoppage ending their first contest in May. The lightweight title was also on the line after Patricio Freire, brother of Patricky, vacated the title last month – but it will remain in the family.

The contest came to an end early in the second round as Freire landed a series of stiff rights that forced Queally against the cage with the referee stepping in quickly to stop it.

It was a bad night for the home crowd with James ‘The Strabanimal’ Gallagher losing the co-main event to American Patchy Mix.
