Michael Bisping became Britain's first champion in UFC history by upsetting middleweight title holder Luke Rockhold with a first-round knockout in Los Angeles.

The 37-year-old let fly with a devastating combination of body and head shots before referee John McCarthy called a halt to the bombardment within just three minutes and 36 seconds of the contest.

Bisping was only given the fight 17 days ago after former champion Chris Weidman pulled out with a neck injury.

But after stunning Rockhold in UFC 199 main event, Bisping opened up on his critics.

He told BT Sport: "People say I've got no punching power, I knew I could punch. This guy (Rockhold) demolishes everybody in the first round.

"I'm so happy right now. I'm an average guy, more than average. This is my dream and no one was taking this away from me.

"Two weeks notice, two days, two hours, two minutes, I'll fight anyone anywhere, it's amazing."

Bisping and Rockhold have history, with the American claiming victory in their 2014 meeting, but 'The Count' secured revenge in the first middleweight title fight of his 10-year career.

Earlier in the card, bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz easily defended his title with a unanimous points decision over Urijah Faber.
