UFC president Dana White has contradicted a tweet from Conor McGregor that claimed the Irishman would be fighting on the UFC 200 bill in Las Vegas on 9 July.
The company last week cancelled McGregor's proposed rematch with Nate Diaz after the Dubliner refused to fly to Las Vegas for a promotional press conference.
In a tweet posted shortly before 7am this morning, however, the Dubliner said that he was back on the bill and thanked White for making it happen.
But White has now told the LA Times that the claims are "not true".
"We haven’t talked [to] Conor or his manager since the press conference. I don’t know why he would tweet that," he said.
White reportedly also told TMZ: "I feel like the scene in 'Step Brothers' when they ask if they can build the bunk beds. I don't know how many more times I can say the fight is off or how many more press conferences I can have saying the fight is off for people to believe it's off."
Last week the featherweight champion caused a stir when he apparently announced his retirement on Twitter.
It turned out that he hadn't quit the fight game, but had refused to attend a planned pre-fight media conference ahead of his scheduled rematch with Diaz this summer.
Diaz said on Friday that he was not willing to fight anyone other than McGregor at UFC 200.
McGregor has taken the UFC by storm and he captured the featherweight belt with a 13-second knockout of long-time champion Jose Aldo last December.
But when his next fight was cancelled, he made a big step up in weight to face Diaz in a non-title fight, which ended in his first UFC defeat.
McGregor remains one of the biggest draws in the sport and the on-again, off-again nature of his UFC 200 fight is seen by some as a power-play between himself and White, while others have opined that the apparent discord is merely a publcity stunt.
