UFC President Dana White does not believe Conor McGregor has retired and expects the Dubliner to return to the octagon within the next year.

Following retirement claims by Conor McGregor on Twitter Tuesday night, White had confirmed the Notorious will take no part in UFC 200.

He put the 28-year-old's apparent hiatus down to his refusal to participate in any promotional activities, including a commercial shoot and press conferences - a decision White deemed unacceptable.

Speaking to Fox Sports 1, White said: "You can't not show up to promote your fight; you can't do it. I deal with 600 alpha males and females every day. They all have different personalities and there's all these different situations that need to be handled.

"You can't make everybody happy, but the one thing nobody is exempt from is promoting their fights. Muhammad Ali promoted his fights, Sugar Ray Leonard promoted his fights.

"Everybody promotes their fights. You have to do it."

Asked whether he'll fight again, White added: "Conor was making a lot of money for this fight. Conor, for whatever reason, he freaked out about this. He's a reasonable guy, he's a smart guy, so this is weird.

"I do not [think he's retiring]. I do [believe he'll fight again in the next year]. Conor needs to clear up this whole retirement thing. If he's retired, at UFC 200 Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar are fighting for the vacant title."
