New UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor says his stunning victory over Jose Aldo is a game-changer in the world of mixed martial arts.

It took the Dubliner just 13 seconds to realise his ambition to be the undisputed champion, taking down the Brazilian with an irresistible left to the jaw in Las Vegas on Sunday morning.

McGregor now says that his record-breaking win, and the overwhelming Irish support at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, has altered the terrain of the sport.

“I am forever blown away by the support of my country,” said McGregor, also known as The Notorious.

“We have changed the game forever.

“To the naked eye it was 13 seconds, but to my team and my family it has been a lifetime of work to get to that 13 seconds.”

Experts put his payday at the $5million mark and a move up a division to lightweight is also on the cards when the 27-year-old considers his next move.

“To the naked eye it was 13 seconds, but to my team and my family it has been a lifetime of work"

He hailed his fans and the previously unbeaten Aldo on his Instagram account.

“Thank you to all the fans who travelled and made this week what it was.

“The travelling Irish are untouchable when it comes to creating the atmosphere needed to make a week like this what it was.

“Respect to a great champion in Jose Aldo. The true greats will always overcome adversity.

“I wish him and his loyal team well on their journey back. Much respect.”
