Galway upset the formbook in Charlestown on Sunday as they dethroned last year's winners Mayo to land the TG4 Connacht Ladies senior football crown for the first time since 2006.

Galway triumphed by 3-17 to 2-08 at O'Hara's pitch to collect the CBE cup for the eighth time.

Una Carroll scored 2-04 and Anne Marie McDonagh chipped in with 1-02 as the Tribeswomen shocked their local rivals.

Carroll scored a penalty and missed another in the opening half while McDonagh added Galway's second goal as Gay O’Brien’s charges led by 2-10 to 2-5 at half-time.

Emma Mullin and top scorer Cora Staunton scored the first half goals for a Mayo outfit ultimately denied a third successive provincial title.

They were relatively pleased at half-time, trailing by just five points having played against the breeze, but the game unravelled for them in the second period.

The wind died considerably and Mayo were affected when Triona McNicholas and Emma Mullin were sin-binned.

Galway took a firm grip on the game and Carroll's second goal killed the game as the winners put together some brilliant attacking moves. Galway completely dominated the second half and outscored Mayo by 1-07 to 0-03 after half-time to announce themselves as All-Ireland contenders.

Meanwhile, Tyrone claimed their fifth TG4 Ulster senior crown with a four-point victory over last year's winners Monaghan at Breffni Park, Cavan.

The Red Hands claimed the Harte Cup in what was a repeat of last year's Ulster decider against beaten 2008 All-Ireland finalists Monaghan. Tyrone won by 3-08 to 0-13 as Sunday's other provincial final also produced a shock result.

Sarah Connolly scored a controversial Tyrone goal in the sixth minute as Monaghan claimed a square ball before Cathy Donnelly goaled late in the half as the winners led by 2-06 to 0-07 at half-time.

Monaghan fought back to trail by just a single point entering the final stages but Jolene Donnelly sealed Tyrone's win with her side’s third goal three minutes from time.

There were no surprises on Saturday as reigning National League, provincial and All-Ireland champions Cork displayed ominous form when crushing Kerry by 6-16 to 0-9 in the TG4 Munster final, played at Bruff, Limerick.

Cork led by 1-09 to 0-04 at half-time before the floodgates opened in the second half as the Rebelettes collected a sixth successive provincial title.

Deirdre O'Reilly scored Cork's first half goal before Rhona Buckley, Valerie O'Reilly (two), Amy O'Shea and Norita Kelly added the second half strikes.

Kerry have now tasted defeat against Cork in four of the last six Munster finals and Jim McEvoy's charges remain firm favourites to annex a fifth successive All-Ireland title.

Also on Saturday, defending champions Dublin advanced to the TG4 Leinster final, where they will meet Kildare on 19 July.

A first-minute goal from Lyndsey Peat sent the Jackies on their way against hosts Meath at Páirc Tailteann in Navan.

Dublin led by 3-03 to 1-04 at half-time and went on to complete a comprehensive 5-06 to 1-08 victory.
