Monaghan through to Ladies final

Monaghan are through to the All-Ireland Ladies Football Final after overcoming Waterford in a thrilling contest at O'Moore Park, Portlaoise. In the end Monaghan took victory by the narrowest of margins 2-11 to 3-07 and await the winners of Mayo and Dublin in the other semi-final.

Waterford started the better and were quick to build an early lead when Mary O'Rourke goaled after only a minute. Points were swapped before Aisling Tierney handed Monaghan the initiative with the game's second goal. Further points from Monaghan put some daylight between the sides before Byrne goaled again to give her side an impressive 2-6 to 1-4 interval lead.

Marie Hogan came on for Waterford after the break and scored her sides second goal. Then, with five minutes remaining, Geraldine O'Ryan scored Waterford's third goal and there was only a point in it. Monaghan hung on for victory however and will be watching closely when Mayo take on Dublin in Pearse Park at 3.30pm this Sunday.
