Offaly hurler Charlie Mitchell is recovering in hospital after becoming unwell following their draw with Kilkenny in the Leinster Hurling Championship on Sunday.

Mitchell, who played all 70 minutes of the 0-24 to 1-21 draw and scored a point, was assessed by their medical team and taken to Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

A decision was made to transfer the 22-year-old to St James' Hospital in Dublin and he underwent what the county are describing as a procedure.

In a statement, Offaly County Board added: "We have been in contact with the Mitchell family this morning and they have advised he is currently recovering and is in good form.

"Everyone at Offaly GAA wishes Charlie a speedy recovery."

Mitchelll took a break from playing earlier this year due to suffering from myocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart.

He made his first appearance of the year in the opening match of the Leinster Championship against Dublin.

The Kilcormac-Killoughey forward is Offaly captain this season.
