The next Division 1 A hurling league final could be 17 months away

The 2027 Allianz Hurling League final could be played in September to attract a wider international audience around the time of the Ryder Cup in Adare Manor.

A report by the Irish Examiner this morning revealed the GAA were exploring the chance to play the final in the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on the same week of the golf event.

The plan will need to be approved by the seven teams involved in the top tier next year for it go ahead.

The final is usually held in April two weeks before the start of provincial competitions.

Club schedules would need to be adjusted in order for it to go through, as well as GPA approval as it would extend the inter-county season considerably.

The move could see the game draw attention from international media present in Limerick for the Ryder Cup and boost the profile of hurling in doing so.

A statement to RTÉ Sport read: "The GAA is considering an opportunity that has been presented to it to stage the 2027 Allianz League Hurling final in Limerick next September around the Ryder Cup.

"To that end, consultation with the seven teams competing in that competition next year, will take place.

"Plans for the competition will be confirmed when that process is complete."
