Kerry have the very early lead in the Christy Ring Cup table after they proved too strong for Meath in a 3-17 to 0-12 victory in Trim.

The 14-point triumph was built on a strong first-half showing in changeable conditions, as Kevin Goulding's goal had the men from the Kingdom heading in at the break with an 11-point advantage.

A late brace of goals from Michael Slattery added a real sheen to the scoreline in a game which saw the players taken off the field for a short period owing to a heavy shower of hailstones.

At Celtic Park, Derry saw off Roscommon by 1-22 to 1-10 after putting in a strong second-half showing.

The Oak Leaf county used the breeze to their advantage before the break with Cormac O'Doherty hitting four points, before setting up Joe Mulholland for a goal.

The second half was more of the same as Derry stretched their advantage out to 12 points before the end.

Donegal also opened their campaign with a win as they surprised Wicklow in Letterkenny, winning by 1-17 to 1-06.

The Tír Chonaill men burst out of the blocks in the opening quarter of an hour to lead by seven, with Josh Cronolly McGee, Ronan McDermott, Peter Kelly, Richie Ryan and Gerry Gilmore all scoring from play.

That was the gap at the break and when Ryan scored the opening goal of the contest shortly after the restart, the writing was on the wall for the Garden County.

Willie Cash did soore a late goal for the Leinster men, but it was a mere consolation.
