Division 2
Laois enjoyed a facile win over Mayo to ensure a healthy points difference after the opening round of the Allianz Hurling League.
It took just five minutes for the O'Moore County to raise their first green flag of the afternoon courtesy of James Keyes, with Cillian Dunne following suit 60 seconds later.
It was one-way traffic in Tooreen with Keyes completing his hat-trick and Dunne adding his second as they led 5-15 to 0-01 at the interval.
Ryan Mullaney claimed a sixth goal in the second half and while the hosts did at least make more headway on the scoreboard, the 29-point interval deficit remained the same at the full-time whistle.
Division 3
In Division 3 there were opening wins for Roscommon and Donegal.
In Dr Hyde Park the Rossies battled back to get the better of Wicklow. The visitors claimed the only goal of the opening half, Seanie Germaine’s 21st-minute goal pushing his side into a healthy 1-06 to 0-01 lead.
The setback sparked the Rossies into life and they outscored their opponents 0-07 to 0-01 for the remainder of the half as they trailed by two at the break.
Roscommon were reduced to 14 men in the 49th minute when Cian Bowes was dismissed for a high challenge. Undeterred, Liam Óg Coyle brought them level with nine minutes remaining.
Wicklow crept back in front before an injury-time goal from Adam Donnelly restored a one-point advantage, with captain Conor Mulry tapping over a free to seal a 2-15 to 1-16 win.
Tyrone fell to an 11-point defeat to Donegal in Garvaghy.
Aidy Kelly pointed the opening score of the game in favour of the hosts, but it was Donegal that soon settled and raised the first green flag of the afternoon.
Shea Munroe’s 31st goal brought Tyrone back into the contest as they trailed 1-12 to 1-09 at the interval.
By the end of the third quarter the Red Hand were on level terms, but a second Donegal goal broke the resistance, with John Kealy claiming their third with six minutes remaining as the visitors ran out 3-23 to 2-16 winners.
