Henry Shefflin has resigned as senior manager of Ballyhale Shamrocks, having been appointed as Kilkenny's Under-20 manager last September.

Shefflin's second stint in charge of his club has lasted just a year but he did deliver a senior Kilkenny title.

They were defeated by Wexford side St Martin's by a point in the Leinster decider.

Shefflin had led the club to two All-Irelands in his first spell as manager in 2019 and 2020, leaving for a senior inter-county role with Galway in between the club jobs.

Mark Aylward, David Herity and Eoin Reid were part of Shefflin's backroom team with Ballyhale.

Ballyhale chairperson Aidan Cummins told RTÉ Sport: "Henry is manager of the Under-20 hurling side for the county and is starting a new business so it's understandable he can't maintain everything.

"We set out a goal at the start of the year to be competitive again and achieved the Leinster win. We're very thankful to Henry and his backroom teams and wish him well in everything he is doing going forward."
