Recently retired Cork great Patrick Horgan has joined his county's Under-20 hurling set-up as a selector.

Manager Noel Furlong has replaced outgoing selector Vincent Hurley with the Glen Rovers man, who finished up as an inter-county player after 18 seasons in September.

Hurling's all-time top-scorer played in four All-Ireland finals, including this year's surprise defeat to Tipperary, and despite a Celtic cross eluding him, was named an All-Star on four occasions.

He also landed four Munster titles, including this year, after Cork also claimed the Allianz Hurling League crown.

Horgan is the record holder for points scored in both championship 32-683 (779) - ahead of Kilkenny's TJ Reid - and league 26-674 (758), and will now bring his considerable experience to Furlong’s set-up.

Furlong was recently appointed U20 manager for a two-year term, replacing Ben O'Connor, who was appointed to the senior manager role after Pat Ryan opted not to seek another term in charge.

He had previously served as Cork minor hurling boss in 2021, guiding the team to Munster and All-Ireland success.

A former dual Cork minor himself, Furlong previously enjoyed significant success at club level, winning county titles at senior level (Carrigtwohill, as a player), premier intermediate (Castlelyons), intermediate A (Fr. O’Neill’s), and junior A (Russell Rovers).

Furlong also coached UCC to Fitzgibbon success in 2020 and served as a Cork senior hurling selector in 2022.
