Ireland 3-03 Scotland 2-04

Cha Dwyer's brace of goals proved vital as Ireland retained the Mowi Quaich Cup as they beat Scotland by two points in the Hurling-Shinty International in Inverness.

In an incredibly low-scoring game, it was Dwyer's late goal - his second - which essentially sealed the victory for Ireland with five minutes left, the Laois attacker got his hurl onto Ben Conroy's looping ball into the square, directing it past the Scottish goalkeeper Bob McGregor.

It's Ireland's third successive victory in the match but their first on Scottish soil since 2013. They might have won much easier but for a dreadful wides tally which reached 17.

Things looked grim early on with Ruaridh Anderson plundering two early goals to put the hosts seven points up after 20 minutes.

Sambo McNaughton's team finally got off the mark on 21 minutes. Shane O'Brien's ball into the square broke for James Doyle, whose shot was saved by McGregor. However, it rebounded to Dwyer, who controlled beautifully and fired home on the swivel.

Ireland got their second goal just before half-time, James Doyle steaming onto a loose ball and driving up the left flank and rifling a shot into the far corner.

Eoghan Connolly levelled the game at half-time with a 65 to leave it 2-01 apiece.

Zander Michie and Shane O'Brien traded points in the third quarter, a Connolly '65 edging Ireland in front for the first time after 63 minutes.

That was it until the 75th minute, with Dwyer connected with Conroy's high ball to push Ireland four in front.

Daniel MacVicar and Donald Nixon scored late points for the Scots but Ireland held on as a late Nixon sideline into the mixer was whipped away to safety in injury-time.

It was a double-success for Ireland who triumphed in the camogie earlier in the day, winning 5-03 to 2-00.
