Kilkenny great Henry Shefflin has been confirmed as the new manager of the county's Under-20 hurlers.

The appointment of the ten-time All-Ireland winner was confirmed at a meeting of the Kilkenny county board, where it was also announced that Shefflin's former team-mate Brian Hogan would also join the U20 management team as a coach and selector.

Seán Kelly (St Martin's, head coach) Graigue Ballycallan's Richie O’Neill and Dicksboro's James Gittens are also joining the backroom team.

Shefflin comes in to replace Mark Dowling, who brought his three-year spell in charge of the U20s to an end in July, following defeat to Tipperary in the All-Ireland final.

The appointment of Shefflin marks the return of the 11-time All Star to inter-county hurling management, following a three-year spell in charge of the Galway senior team, which ended in July 2024.

He had previously managed his club Ballyhale to consecutive All-Ireland SHC titles in 2019-20, and is back in charge of the Shamrocks this season.

Shefflin has also worked on an analyst on RTÉ's The Sunday Game since retiring as an inter-county player in 2015.
