Limerick manager John Kiely was pleased that Limerick chalked up another high score as they got their first win in Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League when accounting for Tipperary at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.
After last week's draw with Cork, a clash where Kiely's side were denied victory after Cork levelled with a free at the death, the Shannonsiders hit 0-30 as they prevailed by four points on the Ennis Road.
Such a tally was what Limerick were achieving en route to their recent All-Ireland wins and Kiely praised the manner in which they again kept the scoreboard operator busy.
He told RTÉ Sport: "I was pleased with the performance. After last week when we did not get the win with a creditable performance, the pressure was on us to back it up this week. There were phases of play that we'd be really happy with; we moved the ball really well and supported the man on the ball really well and when we got our scoring chances we took them really well. Three points from four after two games, and two high-intensity games."
Key names like Mike Casey, Barry Nash, Declan Hannon, Darragh O'Donovan, Cathal O'Neill, Tom Morrissey and Peter Casey are still unavailable for selection, while Sean Finn, William O'Donoghue, and Gearoid Hegarty sustained injuries against Cork and were absent for Sunday's clash.
New additions to the squad include Hugh Flanagan, Dylan Lynch, and Oisín O’Farrell. Overall Kiely is happy with the contribution made so far from those looking to stake regular starting places.
"We are trying to develop more depth in the group and there are a lot of lads that have contributed to a greater sense of depth within the group after the last two games," he added.
"Part of their development is building confidence and building a set of reference for them to say 'I've done it' and they are the confidence building blocks that are needed."
Kiely's counterpart Liam Cahill also accentuated the positives afterwards, though he felt his charges could have got something from the game, as they looked to make it three wins from three.
"We came down to get something out of the game to be honest but I'm really happy to see a lot of what we're trying to achieve with these guys," was Cahill's summation.
"We have four from six which isn't bad. Happy with a lot of aspects of our play that we are working on in training. Good teams like Limerick will punish you when you make unforced errors and today on a couple of occasions our ball handling let us down.
"They captalised on that and their conversion today was incredible - and that's what good teams do to you. It was a big learning especially for our younger players today which is vital in their quest going forward in the Tipperary jersey."
With young guns like Darragh McCarthy and Sean Kenneally making a telling contribution against the Treaty, the Tipp boss is excited with the influx of youth he now has at his disposal.
"We're thrilled with the youth that has been injected into the squad this year. Those players are a big part of our project going forward. Everybody is working so hard, management, players, county board. The whole lot of us together know where we need to go. Today is just little snippets of what might blossom in the future with these guys in particular.
"We do but expectations are always very high in Tipperary. We understand that. The old saying is Rome wasn't built in a day. We have to just persist with the players, give them the exposure and I think come championship they will be fairly well educated for what is coming down the track."
