Henry Shefflin's Galway senior hurling management team looks set to welcome the significant coaching talents of Eamon O’Shea next season.

One of the most respected and sought after coaches in the game, O’Shea is in line to link up with Shefflin’s squad for 2024.

He had previously been linked with a role in the Galway hurling backroom on several occasions.

O’Shea will soon retire as a professor of economics in University of Galway and, as a well-established resident in Salthill, and having helped various Salthill-Knocknacarra teams, RTÉ Sport understands he will join the county’s senior hurling squad.

The Cloughjordan native has been linked with several posts since stepping away from his native Tipperary.

Working with manager Liam Sheedy, he coached Tipperary to All-Ireland titles in 2010 and ’19 and only recently received stellar praise from the newly-retired Seamie Callanan.

In between he took over as manager of Tipperary in September 2012, bringing them to an All-Ireland final in 2014.

O’Shea managed a Galway development squad last year which was coached by fellow Tipp native Tommy Dunne.

His son Donal is currently a member of the Galway senior panel.

O’Shea is renowned for his holistic coaching methods and his ability to inspire players, with the likes of Callanan and Lar Corbett crediting him for some of the best moments in their careers.

His ability to help players find space, employ overlaps, off-the-shoulder runs and to think differently about the game are well known in his native Kilruane MacDonaghs and Tipperary.

Now the senior hurlers of Galway look set to benefit from his expertise.
