Ballygunner 2-20 Na Piarsaigh 2-15

Ballygunner are into the Munster Club SHC Final after a stunning second half display saw them to a 2-20 to 2-15 win over Na Piarsaigh at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Pauric Mahony was the hero for the All-Ireland champions with 13 points, seven of which came from play.

Na Piarsaigh led 2-11 to 1-09 at the break thanks to goals from Keith Dempsey and Conor Boylan but were limited to just four second-half scores.

The Limerick side raced into a three point lead early doors with Kevin Downes (2) and Will Henn hitting the target.

Patrick Fitzgerald got Ballygunner on the board in the eighth minute but efforts from Downes and two sublime Peter Casey efforts saw Na Piarsaigh 0-6 to 0-2 clear.

However, Ballygunner soon had that advantage back to a point when they capitalised on a defensive error and Dessie Hutchinson was on hand to fire low into the net.

Mahony then levelled the game for the first time and then put his side in front with two points inside a minute.

Na Piarsaigh soon hit back with a goal of their own after William O'Donoghue sent midfield partner Keith Dempsey clear with a bullet of a pass and he placed his shot past Stephen O’Keeffe in the Ballygunner goal.

That advantage was at five points at half time when a glorious team move was finished to the net by Conor Boylan.

It was a completely different story in the second half with Mahony leading the charge for the Waterford kingpins who outscored their opponents by 1-11 to 0-04.

Mahony landed three of the opening scores to cut the gap to just three points and it was at the bare minimum when Patrick Fitzgerald picked up a loose ball and slotted a low shot into the net.

Another Mahony point levelled the game for a second time and then he sent Ballygunner 2-14 to 2-13 ahead with 16 left to play.

Na Piarsaigh had no answer to the intensity brought by the All-Ireland champions in the final quarter with scores from Conor Sheahan, Ronan Power and three from Mahony sealing a five-point win.
