Offaly are set to announce their new hurling manager with Johnny Kelly closing in on the role.
RTÉ Sport understands that Kelly's name is to the fore as the Faithful County prepare to appoint a successor to Michael Fennelly.
Kelly previously served as Offaly coach under Fennelly and has a cast-iron reputation as coach and manager on the hurling circuit.
He was at the helm of a silverware-laden era for his native Portumna and guided them to the 2009 All Ireland club title, defeating Waterford's De La Salle at Croke Park.
He led Coolderry to an Offaly SHC title in 2015 and three years ago managed Borris-Ileigh to a first Tipperary SHC crown since 1986.
This year he steered led Nenagh Eire Òg to a North Tipperary senior title and they are currently in the mix for a push for the county crown.
There had been speculation that Tipperary men Eamon O'Shea and Liam Sheedy could take the Offaly team in 2023 but there have been no developments on that front.
Instead, Kelly is the leading contender and could link up with backroom personnel from some of his former clubs.
The Offaly board is set to announce their new appointment soon.
Offaly will play in the Joe McDonagh Cup next season and will operate in Division 2A of the Allianz League.
