Killkenny have ratified Brian Cody as senior hurling manager for 2021 but confirmed that DJ Carey has departed his role as selector.

Eleven-time All-Ireland winning manager Cody will take charge for a 23rd year in the hotseat.

He guided his team to the All-Ireland semi-finals in 2020 and won a 16th Leinster title.

Kilkenny GAA paid tribute to Carey for his role over the past year on the backroom team and wished him "all the best for the future", thanking the former All-Ireland winning forward for his "contribution to Kilkenny GAA over the past number of years".

Five-time All-Ireland winner Carey led Kilkenny to the U20 Leinster title in 2019 in what was his second year in charge at that grade before joining the senior setup.

Kilkenny also confirmed that James McGarry and Martin Comerford will continue as selectors, while Michael Comerford will be retained as strength and conditioning coach.

Derek Lyng will remain as Kilkenny Under-20 manager, with Peter Barry and Michael Rice as his selectors, while Richie Mulrooney will oversee the Under-17s.
