Antrim’s PJ O’Connell has cited work commitments as the reason he opted out of the senior county hurling panel this season.
The Ahoghill man confirmed yesterday that he was leaving the Saffrons ahead of their Leinster SHC opener against Laois on Sunday.
O'Connell’s decision is a further blow to manager Kevin Ryan, who has also lost the services of Barry McFall and Jackson McGreevey.
O'Connell, who is a self-employed joiner, told The Belfast Telegraph: "I have left because of work commitments. I could not commit to the training schedule at this time of the year and we have a lot of work on.
"I don't want anyone thinking it was anything else. By no means is Kevin Ryan a bad manager, he has just had bad luck."
